Sol de Ibiza: good for your skin, Mother Earth and your health
Imagined and created in 2015 by Alessandro Mancini. Open-water swimmer who moved to Ibiza, he realized returning from a long summer swim how the water at the shore was affected by a disgusting smell. He never actually though about how the chemical of the sunscreen products could impact the quality of the water. Backed by his wife from Australia, where there is more awareness about skin problems. One day a friend of him came with the idea of creating a natural sunscreen, they embraced the Sol de Ibiza project. They quickly realized how chemical free products would be beneficial not only for the skin but also for the sea he loves to swim in.
Sol de Ibiza: zero plastic = zero waste
To make it happen the first step was the selection of the ingredients: a sunscreen made by natural ingredients only, which is good for kids, adults and the environment. What they definitely didn’t want, was to produce another piece of plastic that could find his way into the sea, that’s why Sol de Ibiza is completely plastic-free.
What are Sol de Ibiza’s ingredients, then? How can Sol de Ibiza be so effective and yet be so innocent?
Chemical sunscreens have ingredients (oxybenzone, avobenzone, octisalate, octocrylene, homosalate, and octinoxate) that may potentially cause health problems. According to some recent researches, they seep through the skin into the bloodstream after only a couple of hours. These chemicals persist in the blood for up to seven days and exceed, by up to 40 times, the allowed limits.

Mineral sunscreens, on the other hand, use two natural minerals – zinc oxide and titanium dioxide – as active ingredients. These minerals simply sit on top of your skin and protect it by reflecting away UV rays. The American authorities (FDA) have defined these filters, generally regarded as safe and effective.
Zinc oxide is the best of the two mineral sunscreen active ingredients because it is truly a broad-spectrum blocker. That means it protects you and your family from both UVA and UVB rays. Titanium dioxide does a good job of keeping UVB rays out, but it’s not as effective when it comes to UVA rays.
For these and many other reasons, Sol De Ibiza have chosen non-nano zinc oxide as sunscreen filter. Zinc oxide sits on top of your skin (rather than soaking in, like chemical sunscreens do) and protects you by scattering and reflecting the sun’s rays.
Sol de Ibiza: no preservatives
When it comes to inactive sunscreen ingredients, say no to preservatives (like methylisothiazolinone) and fragrances (usually listed as “fragrance” or “parfum”) and yes to natural ingredients! Organic coconut oil and aloe vera, sweet almond oil, organic calendula and sunflower seed oil and cacao butter are the main ingredients used.
